About Us

Founded by Dishawn “Affishaul” Williams Sutton, Trustee of the Mid-Atlantic Dynasty Trust, and a team of dedicated community leaders, the Hip-Hop Healing Institute (HHHI) was created from the belief that hip-hop culture has the power to heal, inspire, and empower.

What began as therapy sessions using lyric writing and open mic circles has grown into a full ecosystem that integrates:

  • Mental Health Services – Trauma-informed care rooted in culture, including hip-hop therapy, sound healing, VR experiences, and fatherhood engagement.

  • Vocational Education – Apprenticeships, reentry workforce pathways, and financial literacy programs through partners like Vision Builders Institute, Krafty Academy, and Imani Nia Freedom School of Fine Arts & Trades.

  • Artistic Expression – Music, media, and film-based programs that transform creativity into both a therapeutic tool and an economic opportunity.

  • Community-Owned Economics – Supported by Freedom Notes, DAO governance, and trust-backed infrastructure to ensure sustainability and generational impact.

Today, HHHI stands as both a healing hub and innovation engine, turning culture into curriculum, therapy into workforce opportunity, and community into a sovereign ecosystem of resilience and growth.

Meet the Visionaries Behind HHHi

The Hip-Hop Healing Institute (HHHI) was founded by Dishawn “Affishaul” Williams Sutton, Trustee of the Mid-Atlantic Dynasty Trust, together with a coalition of cultural leaders, therapists, and educators. Built on the conviction that hip-hop is more than music — it is medicine, education, and empowerment — HHHI transforms culture into a healing force for individuals and communities.

  • From its roots in lyric-writing therapy sessions and creative workshops, HHHI has grown into a multidimensional ecosystem that blends:

    • Mental Health & Healing – Trauma-informed care using hip-hop therapy, VR/sound healing, and fatherhood engagement programs, with clinical supervision and Medicaid-aligned partners.

    • Education & Workforce – Alternative schooling and job training through Vision Builders Institute, Imani Nia Freedom School of Fine Arts & Trades, Krafty Academy, and apprenticeship pipelines supported by NEDA.

    • Arts & Media – Music studios, film projects, and creative hubs that turn self-expression into economic opportunity while documenting stories of resilience.

    • Community-Owned Economics – Powered by Freedom Notes, trust-backed DAO governance, and interlinked entities that ensure sustainability, equity, and long-term impact.

Today, HHHI is more than a program — it’s a movement and institutional framework, designed to divert youth from incarceration, create jobs, and heal families. By integrating clinical services, cultural expression, and community economics, HHHI is building a sovereign ecosystem where hip-hop not only tells our story but also writes our future.
